Kronborg Slot in Helsingør, DK: a king's fortress and castle on a piece of land that juts into the waters between the Baltic and North Seas. The strategic placement of this structure afforded a good defense against invaders as well as the opportunity to charge a toll to the ships passing by on this busy trade route. Shakespeare used it as the setting for "Hamlet". You English literature buffs, would know it as "Castle Elsinore". With a beautiful ballroom, charming bed chambers and dark dungeons, it's a site surely worth the visit!-MGB
