The Journey Over the Pond

My flight from Austin was not uneventful. I had carefully picked a layover in Newark because I thought it would be quick and painless. Unfortunately, my flight to Newark was almost an hour late and I completely missed the direct flight to CPH. I was re-routed through Amsterdam and this meant I would arrive five hours later than expected. Not too bad, but five extra hours of travel is not exactly good either. The truly unfortunate part is that I totally forgot to program Mona's number into my phone and I couldn't let her know my new arrival time. So you guessed it, she waited for a long time and greeted the wrong Chris. Sitting next to a crack head and his drunk wife while cruising over the Atlantic was not pleasant either--thank you, Amsterdam. Oh well, I survived and things only got better...much better.

This is me in the Amsterdam airport before the final leg of my journey, already jetlagged and slightly delirious. I don't really remember taking this picture. Yes, that is my 'carry on' bag next to me. True, a little oversized, but the flight attendants never said anything so it must have been OK...right?

Kahaneka

Just want to thank everyone for braving the rain and coming out to the Kahanek household for my going away party. I think most would agree that it lived up to the definition of a Powerparty (for those who know). Unfortunately, I didn't take many pics and the ones I did take were those classic arm shots not really worthy of a blog. If you have a good one send it my way and I'll post it.

Thanks again, and I'll see a lot of y'all in six months on the 4th o' July!

Saying Goodbye to Texas

I thought it would be appropriate to spend a few of my last hours in Texas exercising my right to shoot semi-automatic weapons at random inanimate (and sometimes animate) objects.

The Weber brothers and I went out to my Grandma's where there was plenty of space to shoot this impressive weapon used by the USMC.

Visit me in DK and your initials will appear on my calendar for free. What a bargain!

A little background

Why is CK in DK? Not so long ago certain decision makers of Thornton Tomasetti (TT) and Leif Hansen (LHAS) decided that the two structural engineering firms would mutually benefit from partnering on projects: TT will gain exposure in the European market and LHAS can tap into TT's large project experience. This partnership has spawned an exchange program where young engineers are traded for six month at a time.

Obviously I have a lot to gain from this opportunity and I'm very thankful for it. I just hope that after six months of a lot of fun and maybe a little work I'll be able to repay TT and everyone involved for their help.

Let the adventure begin!
